La Pine, founded in the 19th century, is located in the valley of the Little Deschutes River, which is a tributary of the Deschutes River which flows through Bend. Both cities are located in Deschutes County, which is one of the quickest growing counties in all of America. After an incorporation measure failed in 2000, La Pine was finally officially incorporated in 2006.
