Prineville, nicknamed The Heart of Oregon, was originally called Prine, after the first merchant in the area. Logging done in the Ochoco National Forest was of prime importance to the city and its dwellers for decades. The City of Prineville Railroad profited from the timber trade until the 21st century. As of 2010, large data centers for both Facebook and Apple have been constructed in Prineville. Another business that has been heavily influential to the town since 1952 has been Les Schwab Tire Centers. Schwab’s was based in Prineville until 2006, at which point they moved their corporate headquarters to Bend. Speaking of tires, if you’re in need of tire-related services for your European vehicle, seek out Matrix Integrated in Bend.
