Wilsonville was named after its first postmaster, Charles Wilson, in 1880. However, it was Alphonso Boone in 1846, the grandson of Daniel Boone, who settled in what would later become Wilsonville, and established the Boones Ferry across the Willamette River in 1847. High tech companies are located in the area; Tektronix built a campus in the city beginning in 1973, which was later sold to Xerox. Mentor Graphics and Stream Global Services, the largest employer in the city, are located in Wilsonville too.
